New: Omega Speedmaster Professional Tokyo Olympics 2020

Two weeks after the release of the Speedmaster Professional Ultraman Omega gives us an additional 10 (or 2*5) limited edition Speedies. The watches celebrate the upcoming 2020 Tokyo Olympics and are only available in Japan.

So, what do we have here? In essence there’s different watches, which come in a limited edition of 2.020 pieces sold separately and an additional 55 which are sold in a set of five. A total of 10.375 watches – quick maths. They all feature sapphire crystal glasses up front and a closed case back engraved with the 2020 Olympic logo. Though new releases, they feel very familiar – but we’ll get to that.

Let’s go over the individual watches:

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Tokyo 2020 Stainless Steel / Blue

References: 522.30.42.30.03.001 / 522.30.42.30.03.002 (set)

The 522.30.42.30.03.001 & 522.30.42.30.03.002 have a blue dial with silver subdials and a matching blue bezel insert, colors previously seen on the 2005 Gemini IV 40th Anniversary.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Tokyo 2020 Stainless Steel / Panda

References: 522.30.42.30.04.001 / 522.30.42.30.04.002 (set)

The 522.30.42.30.04.001 & 522.30.42.30.04.002 have a panda style dial, similar to the ones found on the 2003 Mitsukoshi and the 2004 Apollo 11 35th Anniversary.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Tokyo 2020 Stainless Steel / Silver

References: 522.30.42.30.06.001 / 522.30.42.30.06.002 (set)

The 522.30.42.30.06.001 & 522.30.42.30.06.002 have a silver dial paired with a red bezel insert. A novel combination for the Speedmaster Pro, though it is not unlike the platinum moonphase limited edition of 2016.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Tokyo 2020 Stainless Steel / Yellow Gold / Black

References: 522.20.42.30.01.001 / 522.20.42.30.01.002 (set)

The 522.20.42.30.01.001 & 522.20.42.30.01.002 find their stainless steel case fitted with a yellow gold bezel, pushers and crown. Paired with the gold rins around the sub dials, it very much feels like a yellow gold version of the 2006 Apollo 15 35th Anniversary.

Omega Speedmaster Professional Moonwatch Tokyo 2020 Stainless Steel / Sedna Gold / Grey

References: 522.20.42.30.06.001 / 522.20.42.30.06.002 (set)

The 522.20.42.30.06.001 & 522.20.42.30.06.002 have a stainless steel case with the bezel, crown and pushers done in Omega’s proprietary Sedna-gold. Arguably this one is the most original of the five, though it still feels vaguely familiar.
