New: Omega Speedmaster Professional Ultraman 311.12.42.30.01.001

A few moments ago Omega presented the second version of the Speedmaster Professional Ultraman. Inspired by the so-called Ultraman Speedmaster, an uncommon variation named after a Japanese television series, it features a striking orange second hand and various other unique features.

Omega issued the first Speedmaster Professional SpeedyTuesday limited in 2017. T The watch, reference 311.32.42.30.01.001, was heavily inspired by the Speedmaster Alaska III, with radial alignment for the numerals on the subdials and an all-brushed case. This was given a unique touch through a reverse panda dial with heavily lumed subdials, and presented in a novel presentation roll which included several goodies. his limited edition of 2012 pieces was only available through OmegaWatches.com rather than through the network of Authorized Dealers and boutiques. Nonetheless it sold out in less than four and a half hours. It was a smash hit, and still today the watch commands a premium in the secondary market – though prices have come down a bit in the past months.

For the second edition of the SpeedyTuesday limited edition Omega first and foremost took inspiration from another rare variation of the Speedmaster: the so-called Ultraman. This watch was named after a Japanese television series in which it was spotted. The only distinguishing feature of this Speedy is a striking orange seconds hand. As this is a pretty easy mod, an extract of the archives confirming the orange hand is a must when buying into a vintage Ultraman.

But as was the case with the Alaska III-inspired SpeedyTuesday of 2017, Omega did not go for a 1-on-1 copy of one specific reference from their archives. In this case, updates come in the form of additional orange accents on both the [stepped] dial as well as the [DON] tachymeter bezel. In addition a Ultraman image appears on the 9 o’clock sub dial in black lume, fully revealing itself in low light conditions. The 2018 Omega Speedmaster SpeedyTuesday Ultraman is once again a limited edition of 2012 pieces in honor of the year in which the #SpeedyTuesday hashtag was coined. The glass is hesalite and the case back closed, printed the the #SpeedyTuesday hashtag. It comes in a unique hexagonal box which includes various goodies.

The price for the Omega Speedmaster Professional Ultraman 311.12.42.30.01.001 is EUR 6.020 including VAT / USD 7.100 / GBP 4.750. It was available via OmegaWatches.com, but sold out within an hour of its release.
