Press Release: Lost in Space: Tokyo-Style

6 June 2017 / Omega

OMEGA’s world-famous chronograph is given the tribute it deserves, in a city famous for getting every aesthetic detail just right

At first glance you’d be forgiven for thinking a spaceship had landed on a Tokyo rooftop. The venue for OMEGA’s Speedmaster event in Japan’s capital was truly out-of-this-world.

Friends of the brand, including actor Shohei Miura, were invited to get “Lost in Space” as part of the 60th Anniversary of the first watch worn on the Moon.

Many of Speedmaster’s most iconic models were on display; including the first ever model produced in 1957, and “The Galaxy Express 999”- a watch made in collaboration with world-acclaimed Japanese cartoonist Reiji Matsumoto, which was sold exclusively in Japan and limited to just 1999 pieces.

As well as exploring the history and evolution of the watch, guests could lose themselves in the dream-like mirror room, and have their picture taken to become one of OMEGA’s #SpeedmasterFans. The digital campaign has been a huge success and actor Shohei Miura has already joined the movement.

OMEGA’s Speedmaster, originally designed with racing car drivers in mind, has taken an altogether different trajectory and the event in Tokyo was a fitting tribute to its extraordinary adventures.
