The Speedmaster-series is best known for its classic Professional model, a watch that remained virtually unchanged for 50+ years. However, Omega has made quite a few models that might suit those of you looking for a more high-tech approach to watchmaking. These two are our picks:
The 322.214.171.124.01.002 is sans doubt one of Omega’s flagship Speedmasters. It is powered by one of their latest movements: Caliber 9300. Being a new Omega manufacture movement, it is of course fitted with their proprietary co-axial escapement and silicon balance spring. But that’s not all: columnwheel, vertical clutch chronograph with combined minute & hour totalizers, date function, twin barrels, hour setting via time zone function. If high-tech mechanical movements are your thing, there is hardly a better chronograph than the Speedmaster 9300! It looks great on this bracelet, but there’s also a version with an alligator strap with curved ends, which looks smashing as well.

Okay, we said High-Tech right? There is no watch in Omega’s current collection that would suit this title better than the Spacemaster. Wait – no Speedmaster? No, indeed. But Omega does rank it amongst the Speedmasters, and it is the spiritual heir to both the Flightmaster as well as the killer Speedmaster X-33. While it might not suit everyone, it is a impressive timepiece nonetheless. The titanium case measures in at an impressive 43mm, with a height that’s nearly half of that – this one will surely get you noticed. The movement -Omega 5666- was developed especially for this model, just as was the case with the X-33. As such, it is stacked with functions dedicated to (aspiring) pilots and astronauts.
The Z-33 is available on either a rubber or leather strap, or a titanium bracelet. We choose for the rubber strap as we think it suits the high-tech look very well.
