Far too long ago I posted the invite for The Moon Room, the pop-up Speedmaster lounge by Ace Jewelers. Today I finally found time to upload a few pictures and do a little report.
As posted in the invite, The Moon Room was a pop-up lounge slash exhibition celebrating everything Speedmaster, put together by Ace Jewelers with the help of WatchWorks Haarlem, Watchbase and a number of friends. For the occasion, Ace had decorated an empty room adjacent to their Online HQ with furniture, art and objects as eclectic as the Speedmaster watches that were on display.
Besides the watches, to which I’ll get in a bit, there was a lot of Speedmaster literature in the form of books, magazines and auction catalogues, allowing collectors to dive in and research the watches in detail.
The walls were filled with Speedmaster-related prints and art, of which the J.F. Kenny poster (made for the 40th anniversary of the Speedmaster) and Cay Broendum’s Speedmaster canvas (an artist proof) got the most praises.
For the watches, Ace had put together a mix of vintage, recent, and modern Speedmasters. Far from a complete overview, it nonetheless offered a nice glimpse into the past and present of the Speedmaster.
The opening night drew an especially large crowd, with Robert-Jan of Fratello Watches giving a presentation on the highly popular #SpeedyTuesday limited edition.
Soon watches were passed around from collector to collector for admiration and -of course – #wristshots.
The opportunity to see the #SpeedyTuesday Speedmaster for many was one of the highlights of the first (of four) events.
.. And of course, visitors, as expected, came in appropriate dress;
